Try saying that heading 7 times fast...

I'll be honest when the other members of the NSW Supra Club Committee suggested running a skidpan in 2020, yes 2020, the year where basically no plans have gone to plan I thought they were a little bit crazy. However, as it turns out it was just the right amount of crazy because the spooky themed event, presented by Phil Gilbert Motor Group Parts was a smashing success!

We're a small club, booking the skidpan at Sydney Motorsport Park is a pretty big deal for us. So it was awesome to see months of planning come to fruition on Halloween (31st of October) with nearly 40 cars, mostly Supra's taking to the skidpan.

Before we look at some pictures I need give props to Brad Rhodes (NSWSC Club Secretary) and Danielle Berry (NSWSC Club Prez) for their tireless behind the scenes efforts to bring this event to life. The NSW Supra Club is a Motorsport Australia affiliated club, this means that we're able to obtain permits to run motorsport events. Yes paperwork is a bit boring, but throwing your car around a skidpan is wicked, so it's worth it and Brad and Dani absolutely crushed it with the paperwork and event organisation leading up to the day.

The week leading up to the event was wet, really really wet. Eastern Australia is experiencing the La Nina weather pattern this Summer, which means that it's cooler and wetter than the weather her brother El Nino often brings ,which is hot and dry. I thought for sure we were going to be standing about in heavy rain all day and it wasn't going to be much fun. Thankfully I was wrong. Whilst parts of Sydney were hit by hail and gale force winds, somehow Eastern Creek remained untouched by the storm and I've actually never been so sun burnt in my life. It did eventually pour down, but only after we'd finished packing up, we were very lucky indeed, although 2020 did really owe us...

We also need to give props to our Motorsport Australia Officials on the day; Kim, Matt & Ben handled all the timing. Jonathan from the WRX Club our Clerk of Course with Danielle as Deputy Clerk of Course. I was just pointing cars in which direction to go, but technically I'm also an official...Thanks also to the WRX Club for their awesome automated timing equipment, it made the day run so much smoother.

Whilst Supra's dominated attendance at the day, we had some awesome old school Toyota's on hand from Toymods, also some folks from the WRX Club. Safe to say the WRX's did VERY well on a wet skidpan...

At the end of the day there were no winners or losers, it actually wasn't a competitive event, so no prizes were awarded for times. It was just awesome to get out, throw our cars around in a safe environment and catch up with people in person. We were very lucky that the Phil Gilbert team were on hand with a few prizes for best dressed and also their pick of awesome drivers throughout the day who scored some awesome Toyota merch packs.

Today's video we head down to Sydney Motorsport Park in Project Lynn to do some skids on the skidpan which was hosted by New South Wales Supra Club.
